Learning Conference Event on June 26 Open to Community for Family Fun Night

HOLLAND -- A conference on learning is presenting
a "Family Fun Night" open to the community on Tuesday, June
26, at 7 p.m. at Hope College.

Designed for "fun loving people of all ages," the
event will take an active and entertaining approach in
exploring how to boost learning potential. The session will
take place in the Pine Grove located at the center of the
Hope campus, and will be led by educator/author Dr. Jeff
Haebig.

The public is invited. Admission is free.

Topics will include how to sharpen focus and
heighten attention, how to build learning and memory, how to
tap one's preferred learning style, brain-boosting foods,
how to correct learning problems, and how to create a
nurturing home that enhances learning. The session, which
will run until 8:30 p.m., will provide information that
applies to infants through adults.

Haebig has been a health educator for more than 30
years, and has presented wellness lessons using body/brain-
based teaching and learning methods to regional and national
audiences. Founder and president of Wellness Quest, a
company that has specialized in health promotion since 1984,
he has produced three audiocassettes and published eight
books in the "Health Care-toons" and "Toon Ups" series. A
state champion in public speaking, he has earned the
"Distinguished Toastmaster" award, the highest honor
bestowed by Toastmasters International.

The Pine Grove is located east of College Avenue
near Graves Place (11th Street), and is behind Graves Hall
on College and Durfee Hall on 10th Street. If it rains, the
event will be held in the Haworth Inn and Conference Center,
located on College Avenue between 9th and 10th Streets.

The "Family Fun Night" is being offered in
conjunction with the "Midwest Brain and Learning Institute"
being held at Hope on Monday-Thursday, June 25-28. The
institute features presentations on brain research
information and its impact on learning, and is geared toward
educators, social workers, psychologists and health care
professionals. The institute is sponsored by Hope College,
the Muskegon Area Intermediate School District and the
Ottawa Area Intermediate School District.
