Flying Dutchmen Picked for Third in MIAA Football Race
The Flying Dutchmen approach the 100th year of Hope College football picked to finish third in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) standings. The MIAA held its 40th annual fall sports media luncheon on August 6 at Hope's Haworth Inn and Conference Center.
Defending MIAA champion Trine has been picked as the team to beat in the pre-season poll of coaches and media in attendance. The Thunder posted an undefeated regular season in 2008, including a one-point victory over Hope. The Flying Dutchmen finished in a tie for third place last fall winning their last three games after starting the season with seven consecutive losses.
In this year's poll Trine received seven first place votes followed by Adrian with five, Hope two and Alma one.

Hope begins its 100th year of football on September 5 at Illinois Wesleyan. The 112th MIAA season (Hope's 80th) begins on Saturday, Oct. 3 when the the Flying Dutchmen challenged Trine at Angola, Ind.
