Upward Bound Students to Perform “Now Let Me Fly” on Nov. 23

HOLLAND - Hope College Upward Bound students will perform the play "Now Let Me Fly" on Tuesday, Nov. 23, at 4:30 p.m. in the Maas Center auditorium.

The public is invited. Admission is free.

The play is described as the story of the unsung heroes and heroines behind the struggle to end legalized segregation in America.

The performance is sponsored by Hope College's Critical Issues Symposium, which addressed the issues of segregation and race as seen through the landmark Supreme Court case, Brown v. Board of Education.

There will be a reception at 4 p.m. immediately before the performance.

Hope College Upward Bound seeks to generate the skills and motivation necessary for success in education beyond high school among students from low-income and first-generation families who have the potential to pursue a college education but may lack adequate preparation and support. The goal of the program is to increase the academic performance and motivational levels of eligible students so that they may complete secondary schooling and successfully pursue post-secondary educational programs. The program operates during both the school year and summer.

The Maas Center is located at 264 Columbia Ave., at the corner of Columbia and 11th Street.
