GPS to Feature The Brahms Piano Trio on Nov. 18

HOLLAND - The Hope College Great Performance Series will feature The Brahms Piano Trio on Thursday, Nov. 18, at 7:30 p.m. in Dimnent Memorial Chapel.

While in just their third year of existence, the Russian trio is made of up of three highly-acclaimed musical veterans. The ensemble consists of two members of the world renowned, Grammy-nominated St. Petersburg String Quartet, and a pianist who has won multiple international piano competitions.

The "Los Angeles Times" praised the group, noting, "The three shared the same approach to the music, melding seamlessly as an ensemble... noble, heroic, bold, intimate, prayerful, ineffable."

They have performed in New York City's Frick Collection, Washington, D.C.'s, Dumbarton Concerts, and the Los Angeles Music Guild.

The "Ann Arbor News" said, "The trio played off each other in great sympathy... Finely nuanced dynamic shaping and equally finely tuned agogic accents made the playfulness, the irony and the bite... readily apparent."The classical piano trio is made up of cellist Leonid Shukaev, violinist Alla Aranovskaya, and pianist Maxim Mogilevsky. Aranovskaya and Shukaev are also founding and current members of the St. Petersburg String Quartet. The group's awards include "Best Record" honors in both "Stereo Review" and "Gramophone" magazines. Mogilevsky includes among his awards first prize in piano competitions in Japan, South Africa, and Portugal.

Tickets are $14 for the general public, $12 for senior citizens, and $5 for children 18 and under.
