Grammy-Nominated Jazz Vocalist
to Perform at Hope on Feb. 25
HOLLAND - The Hope College Great Performance Series will present five-time Grammy nominee Nnenna Freelon on Friday, Feb. 25, at 7:30 p.m. in Dimnent Memorial Chapel.
Both Freelon's live appearances and her recordings have received outstanding reviews.
"By the time it (her show) was over, there was no doubt that Freelon has now positioned herself in the very top echelon of jazz vocalists," said the "Los Angeles Times."
"Freelon makes each song such a personal statement that they all seem fresh and new," said "USA Today."
Freelon's recognitions include the Academie du Jazz's "Billie Holiday Award," five Grammy nominations, and two of Soul Train's "Lady of Soul" nominations. Leading jazz vocalists who have acclaimed her include Aretha Franklin, who said, "Be sure to check out Nnenna Freelon... very hip music."
Freelon has been featured on such television specials as ABC's "Celebration of America's Music" hosted by Bill Cosby and BET's "Jazz Central." Her live performances have recently been released on her eighth CD, "Live." More information can be obtained at www.freelon.com/nnenna.
Tickets for Freelon's Feb. 25 performance at Hope are $14 for the general public, $12 for senior citizens, and $5 for children 18 and under and Hope students.
