Faculty Recital Features Saxophonist on Sunday, April 3

HOLLAND - The range of the saxophone will be showcased during the Hope College Music Faculty Recital Series on Sunday, April 3, at 3 p.m. in Wichers Auditorium of Nykerk Hall of Music.

The public is invited. Admission is free.

Faculty member Ryan Janus, saxophone, will perform four pieces in a variety of styles. He will open with "Homages" by Will Gay Bottje, with piano accompanist Roberta Kraft.

Janus will then join with pianist Soyeon Park and cellist Steven VanRavensway for Howard Frazin's "The Jesters, the Artists, and the Little Lion." Next, Park and Janus will perform "Plum Blossoms," by Shih-Hui Chen.

Finally, Janus and a string quartet will perform John McDonald's "Transcriptions, Op. 397." The members of the quartet are violinists Chris Martin and Haijin Chooi, violist Leslie van Becker and cellist Steven VanRavensway.

The last three pieces in the program were all commissioned by the World-Wide Concurrent Premiers and Commissioning Fund.

Nykerk Hall of Music is located on the former 12th Street between College and Columbia avenues.
